The History of Walker Farms

June 18, 2025

Nestled in the heart of Aylmer, Ontario, Walker Farms stands as a testament to dedication, innovation, and family values. From its humble beginnings in the 1950s to becoming a pioneer in A2 protein milk production, the Walker family’s journey reflects a commitment to quality and community.

1950s: The Visionary Beginnings

The story of Walker Farms begins with John M. Walker, a man with a passion for agriculture and a knack for salesmanship. In the 1950s, John started buying and selling livestock, and by 1958, he was holding monthly dairy cattle sales that attracted buyers from across Canada, the U.S., and even overseas. His reputation earned him the nickname “Mr. Canada Dairyman,” laying the foundation for a family legacy in dairy farming.

1970s–1980s: Building the Family Farm

In the late 1970s, John M. sold 40 cows to his son, Jon S. Walker, who, at just 16 years old, began milking his herd daily before and after school. Jon’s dedication, alongside his wife Linda, led to the growth of their herd and the establishment of a thriving family farm. By the early 1990s, their herd had expanded to 200 cows, and by 1995, they returned to John M.’s original farm in Aylmer, bringing their five children into the fold.

2000s: Embracing Innovation

As the new millennium approached, the Walker family continued to innovate. They began exploring the benefits of A2 protein milk. This led to the development of a specialized A2 herd and plans for an on-site processing facility, ensuring complete control over the quality and production of their milk.

2020s: A New Era of Dairy Farming

In 2021, Walker Farms unveiled their state-of-the-art on-farm processing facility, allowing them to produce, process, and package A2 protein milk within 150 meters. This venture not only provided consumers with a local and fresh milk option but also reinforced the family’s commitment to sustainability and innovation.

A Family Affair

Today, the third generation of Walkers – John Jr., Dayna, Scott, and Clint – play integral roles in the farm’s operations, bringing diverse skills and perspectives to the business. Their collaborative efforts ensure that Walker Farms remains at the forefront of the dairy industry, blending tradition with modern practices.

Looking Ahead

With a legacy spanning over six decades, Walker Farms continues to prioritize quality, community, and innovation. Their journey from a small-scale livestock operation to a leader in A2 protein milk production exemplifies the enduring spirit of Canadian agriculture
